❄️ WINTER WEATHER ALERT – PROTECT YOUR WATER METERS & PIPES! ❄️
With the recent cold temperatures and more freezing weather expected, the Borough of Catasauqua reminds residents that homeowners are responsible for protecting their water meters and water pipes from freezing.
📌 Per Catasauqua Borough Ordinance § 265-13(E):
Customers are responsible for protecting water meters from frost. If a meter freezes and breaks, the property owner will be charged for the cost of repair or replacement, including labor.
💡 Tips to Prevent Freezing:
🏠 Inside your home:
- Insulate meters & pipes (store-bought or DIY with blankets, rags, pool noodles)
- Seal drafts near pipes
- Keep heat on & open cabinet doors near plumbing
- Let a small trickle of water run during extreme cold
- Do not turn off heat in your home – even if you’re away
❄️ Outside your home:
- Turn off outdoor spigots from inside
- Disconnect hoses
- Add foam covers to spigots
✅ Take these steps now to avoid service interruptions and costly repairs!
